Information about the Thunderbird Local Area Network, Wifi Network, and Internet connection.

There are wired network connections available in all common areas around campus, and in all Executive Inn rooms. These ports provide 10/100Mbps ethernet connections to the campus Local Area Network (LAN) and to the Internet. You will need to bring your own Ethernet cable to plug in. For your convenience, these cables can be purchased at the Helpdesk in the Lincoln Computer Center, and at the Circulation Desk in the IBIC.

I&IT has received many complaints of Wi-Fi coverage problems in the dorms. Most were caused by interference from rogue wireless routers used by dorm residents. In order to alleviate this problem, I&IT no longer provides wired network ports (aka. Ethernet) in the dorms. This means you will no longer be able to hook up a wireless router on that port.  If you feel you need to have your wired network port enabled, you will need to request this at the I&IT Helpdesk in the LCC building. You will be asked to fill out a form explaining your request. Requests will be considered on a case by case basis. The helpdesk will communicate with you about the status of your request.

Wireless network access is also provided in most public areas around campus, including the dorms.
